It’s me, Scott from Our Tiny Earth. I have a question for you. How many people have to die in the streets before we realize that we have a serious problem which we can’t look away from any longer.
Over the weekend, so far, there were 7 people shot. One killed. This has been an ongoing trend throughout our city all year as well as one of the lowest graduation rates in the nation among African-American boys, and a host of other issues.
I know I’m not the only one who believes that we need to see some major changes. Not just in the gun laws or throwing more money at the problem in hopes that it will go away, what we need is real action and community involvement.
I would like to have a series of community meetings, political BS left at the door, where we can discuss the real problems we’re having with the city and brainstorm some real solutions. We need to have an open discussion without bickering and without blame where we can simply push ahead rather than continue to dig ourselves into a hole. I would like to see community involvement with every single person who chooses to live here.
This is our city. Our Home. These are our communities, our neighbors, friends and families who are dying. Our leadership on both sides have made it a point to play politics rather than work on what really needs to be fixed.
If you’re a Rochester resident and would like to do something for our city in which we love, please leave a comment below so we can get a plan together and get the ball rolling. Feel free to use the comments as a discussion board. Anything I deem as inapropriate will be deleted.
Let’s take responsibility for our communities. The time for complaining is past
